SUN KISSED

Image
It's been so long since I've posted anything, a lot has been going on, however, today I was really inspired by Afro-Arab cultures in Africa. I'm obsessed with the draping of the fabric and how soft it feels. There is something that feels ethereal about Afro-Asiatic people (most are based in East-Africa, more specifically Somalia). Their sun-kissed skin and luscious hair come from heaven (I kid), there's just something magical about how they look.

I've been googling different African cultures, our continent is truly beautiful and so are its inhabitants. I hope you like this...

HOTLINE FLING

Image
I've been obsessing over Drake's song, Hotline Bling. I really love the colours and the aesthetics of the music video, so I did an inspired shoot. I'm basically wearing the colours that the girls in the beginning of the video are wearing; pastel pink and pastel blue. There's something quite capturing about pastel colours, maybe it is their powdery feel haha, I don't know.

I added an earthy feel to the whole shoot, feast yerr uyzz mate!

Impromptu Shoot

Image
My friend, Nhlanhla (Remember him from the Township Shoot?) and I did an impromptu shoot around the township again. The only difference this time is that he was the photographer. He took close-up shots of me, and the lighting was golden!! Literally!!

We walked around the township and found an abandoned building with a sketchy painting of a teenage boy raising his fist up, it has a Soweto Uprising feel to it. If you do not know about the Soweto Uprising in 1976, please google it, it plays a great role in South African history and still is relevant today.

I enjoy portraying the lighter sides of the township because what people think internationally is that it is a gloomy place. To me it represents home. These pictures give me a nostalgic feeling. Hope you enjoyed!

EnWraptured Shoot

Image
Hey there, it's been a minute since I've posted. I've been so occupied trying to fix my school stuff, however, I also did an awesome photo shoot for an upcoming company called EnWraptured. They sell amazing head wraps, their fabrics beautiful and colourful because of the African prints.

Tshanga, a friend of mine got models and styled them while I art directed the shoot and did the Frida Kahlo inspired look on one of the models. We had the shoot in Johannesburg at the Constitution Hill. I've never done any professional work before this, so this is my first professional body of work in my photography journey.

Model: Coco

I worked with 5 models, which was great because of the variety. They were all so sweet and all so different. However, what I'm learning is that photography is not an easy thing, all the editing takes hours. Finding the perfect light is also a challenge. Light is so crucial, it sort of determines the quality of your pictures.

Simple Pieces

Image
It's 1:48 AM in South Africa  (wrote that because most of my blog readers are from Canada, at least that's what Blogger says). It's not that I've run out of sleep; the situation is that the wifi here at home is capped I finished the data, however, it works from 1 to 6 AM (this is the "free" data we get). It's just complicated lol, but I thought I should post these pictures today, they were taken by my friend Palesa Maretlane.

I really like the yellow parka jacket I got from Macy's. Simple pieces make a statement most times. I'm learning to feel confident in clothing that is not deemed as "glamorous". A minimalist approach  (with a pop of colour) looks good on any summer's day. There's beauty in almost anything. From just a plain white tee to a sequin dress. This is a sports-luxe inspired outfit, if I had money I would probably have three stripes everywhere lol (because Adidas is so cool and I literally die for their track-suits).…

Fashion Shoot #OOTD

Image
So I did a fashion photo-shoot with my friend Palesa Maretlane, she is currently my muse. We were on the rooftop of a building in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, and the lighting was just the right amount of perfect. We took pictures of each other and a friend of ours photographed us as well. I intend to make photography more than a hobby, I want it to be a part of my daily life in fashion. My friend, Palesa, and I don't spend much on clothes, we usually thrift or buy at affordable shops which makes the looks we create accessible for anyone who wants the look.

My Look Shirt: Mr. Price Culottes: Mr. Price Shoes: Cotton On

I forgot to ask her where she bought her clothes (sorry!!), but she says she told me she got most of her clothes from thrift shops. Thrift shops are goldmines haha!

My light blue Suit-dress: Calvin Klein ( I got it at a sale at Ross *wink*) Palesa's Suit-dress: Thrift shop find
